Lima: South America’s Culinary Capital
Your culinary journey begins where it must Lima, consistently ranked among the world’s top food cities. Two days give this extraordinary capital the attention it deserves. A guided tour of the UNESCO-listed historic center walks you through the grand Plaza Mayor and the ornate Cathedral before the afternoon shifts into Lima’s true identity: a culinary tour through local markets, pisco bodegas, and celebrated restaurants introducing you to ceviche, causa, and the legendary pisco sour. Day 3 takes you south to Mamacona for a traditional Peruvian Paso horse show, one of the country’s most elegant cultural traditions, before visiting the ancient pre-Inca site of Pachacamac, where food offerings to the gods were central to Andean spiritual life thousands of years before the Inca Empire.
Sacred Valley: The Inca Pantry
Arriving in the Sacred Valley, your first stop is Manos, a working artisan and food producers collective where traditional Andean ingredients and techniques are kept alive. The following day takes you to Moray, the Inca’s open-air agricultural laboratory, and the cascading salt pools of Maras before an afternoon with a local Andean community for a weaving demonstration and lunch. Day 6 introduces chicha de jora, the ancient fermented corn beer that has been brewed in the Andes for over 3,000 years, at a traditional chicha stop before exploring Ollantaytambo and sitting down to a Pachamancafeast: marinated meats and vegetables slow-cooked underground on heated volcanic stones, just as Andean communities have done for over a millennium.
Coffee, Cacao & the Jungle Edge
One of the most unique days on any Peru culinary itinerary: a full-day immersion into the coffee and cacao farms of Cusco’s high jungle. Drive across the Andes and cloud forest to visit two local farming families, first Julia’s cacao farm, where you walk among fruit trees, roast dried beans, grind cacao paste, and taste fresh cacao pulp, then the Pérez family’s coffee farm, where you learn the full journey from shade-grown plant to cup and enjoy lunch in a beautiful rural setting. For those who prefer to stay in Cusco, an optional half-day cooking class is available instead
Cusco: Culture, History & a Night to Remember
The final day in Cusco balances the city’s extraordinary history with two of its most celebrated evening experiences. A guided afternoon tour takes in Koricancha, the Plaza de Armas, and the ruins of Sacsayhuamán, before an unforgettable dinner at Tunupa, one of Cusco’s most iconic restaurants, combining a traditional Andean dance show with a spectacular spread of Peruvian cuisine overlooking the Plaza de Armas.
