What Our Travelers Say About Us
Exploor was the best choice we made for our Peru trip. They planned every part of the trip exceptionally well right from the planning to scheduling and sharing of information.
They had a great team who were prompt, friendly and thorough. A big shoutout to Rosmy from the planning team and Maik and Grimaldo who were our guides. They went over and above for each leg of the trip. Great vehicles, good restaurant selection for meals, well-explained tours made the whole experience very memorable and comfortable. An added bonus was the great photo taking which our guides were experts in 🙂 10/10 recommended!
Exploor made it possible to be completely hands off and thoroughly enjoy the is trip. I am beyond pleased with their services and would highly recommend! They were also very accommodating to flight delays and such.
The admin team: Walter, Karen, Rosmy held down the plans! The tour guides: Kari and Andrea …10/10! I feel like I completed a college course on the history of Peru! The drivers made us feel 100% safe and were also very accommodating. Well done team!!
Boat Rides on the Amazon RiverFrom Iquitos, the transfer to the lodge is itself a boat ride on the Amazon, and the boat goes out again for early-morning birdwatching and to look for pink river dolphins.
Monkey IslandThe first stop on the way from Iquitos to the lodge, to see endangered monkey species up close, replaced by Fundo Pedrito in the dry season. Peru Uncovered visits a Monkey Island near Puerto Maldonado.
The Jungle After DarkA night boat ride with the engine switched off to listen to the forest, and a night walk with your guide to look for frogs, snakes, sloths and tarantulas.
Visiting the Yagua CommunityOn day 2 of our Iquitos tours you meet a Yagua community, learn about their customs, join a traditional dance and try their blowgun.
Iquitos, 3 or 4 days, from USD 395. The best value if you only want the jungle. Plan 3 days for the highlights and 4 if you want a slower pace and one extra outing. Flights from Lima take a little under 2 hours, and most connections from Cusco also route through Lima, so most travelers fly Lima to Iquitos and back. Arrive before 9:00 am to start the tour on the same day, and book your return flight after 5:30 pm.
Iquitos by river cruise, from USD 8,199 as part of 12 days. The Delfin cruise is for travelers who want a suite, all meals on board and guided outings twice a day without changing rooms. The cruise explores the rivers around the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, a protected area of about 8,000 square miles (20,800 km²).
Puerto Maldonado with Machu Picchu, from USD 2,639. The easiest combination with Cusco, about 1 hour by air. Lodges sit on the Madre de Dios River, a boat ride from town, near the Tambopata National Reserve, known for its lakes, giant river otters and macaw clay licks.
When to go. The Amazon is warm and humid all year. From December to May the rivers are high and boats reach deeper into flooded forest. From June to November the water drops and more trails and river beaches open up. Our guide to the best time to visit Iquitos explains what each season changes.
Health. The US CDC recommends the yellow fever vaccine for travelers aged 9 months or older visiting Loreto, where Iquitos is, and Madre de Dios, where Puerto Maldonado is. Ask a travel clinic about malaria prevention well before you fly.

Iquitos is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road from the rest of its country, so everything, including you, arrives by plane or by boat. That shapes how you pack: the boat to the lodge takes a small bag, most travelers leave their main suitcase in safe storage at our Iquitos office, and each extra suitcase taken to the lodge costs USD 10 in cash.
