Amazing picture, isn’t it? You want this and we want you to have the time of your life there, too.

That’s our main goal: to show you the best of Peru in your own terms, i.e. your set time, your defined budget and your preferred travel style.

But first things first. Before telling you what sets us apart, let’s get the “travel agency thing“ out of the way. We’ll keep it short, we promise.

To Travel Agency Or Not To Travel Agency?

Travel through Peru on your own or splurge on a travel agency? Here’s the latest advice about picking the right choice for you.

Coke or Pepsi? Cat or dog? Easy, right? To travel agency or not to travel agency? That is the question. The definitive answer is partly taste, partly budget and partly real-world considerations. However, when considering all the trade-offs carefully, we think going with a travel agency is the right call. Let us explain.

3 Widely Believed But False Claims

1. “Going with a travel agency is way more expensive than traveling on your own.”

In fact, going with a travel agency can be cheaper at times if you take into consideration all the time saved and the hassle-free experience. As a one-stop shop, we can help you customize your trip up to the last detail at the right price.

Do not take our word and check out our price benchmark compared to other agencies.

2. “I don’t need an agency. I can Google my way out or ask around.”

Not quite so. As insiders and with lots of experience from previous travelers, travel agencies have access to knowledge nowhere to be found online because that’s our main job. Granted, these days the Internet is there to cut off the middle man but that’s when they don’t bring any value to the table.

Aside from the usual suspects when planning a trip -limited time, the language barrier and the unexpected unknowns- travel agencies can be a real asset when it comes to which is the right trip for you.

Say you want book the ideal hotel in the Sacred Valley to celebrate your anniversary. Well, we haven’t just researched the best hotels online, but we’ve also been there ourselves, so we know from first hand experience which one is the perfect one for you.

3. “Travel agencies force you to buy all services (tours, accommodation, etc.) at the same price range all bundled in a package.”

95% of the time that’s true, but not with us. At Exploor Peru, we believe in total flexibility. No matter how you want to travel, it’s always your call. When we started the company, we were very aware of this issue and that’s why we created different product categories targeted at different travelers’ needs from the get go.

Frequently Asked Questions About Choosing a Peru Tour Company Like Exploor Peru

Why should I book my Peru trip with a specialized tour company instead of planning it alone?

A specialized Peru tour company understands local conditions, weather patterns, and timing for popular sites. This helps you avoid common problems such as sold-out tickets for Machu Picchu, missed train connections, or poor acclimatization to altitude. A good operator also coordinates transport, tickets, and guides in a single plan, so you spend less time on logistics and more time enjoying the trip. For many travelers, this support reduces stress and lowers the risk of costly mistakes.

What should I look for when choosing a Peru tour operator?

Focus on clear communication, real customer reviews, and detailed tour descriptions. Look for information about group size, what is included in the price, cancellation rules, and safety practices. Check if guides are local and if they speak your language well. It also helps to see if the company responds to questions quickly and gives specific answers, not generic replies. These signals show that the operator is organized and customer focused.

Is it better to choose a local Peru operator or a large international agency?

A local Peru operator often has more up-to-date knowledge of routes, seasonal changes, and local rules. This can lead to more flexible itineraries and more authentic experiences. Large international agencies may offer extensive customer support and brand recognition, which some travelers value. Many travelers prefer local companies for their on-the-ground expertise, then rely on reviews, policies, and support channels to feel secure with the booking.

How far in advance should I book tours in Peru, including Machu Picchu?

For popular routes such as Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, or peak season in Cusco, it is smart to book several months in advance. Tickets and permits for certain trails have limited daily spots, so last-minute bookings can be hard or more expensive. For shorter or less popular tours, you might have more flexibility, but early planning still gives you better choices of dates, time slots, and accommodation.

Are small-group tours or private tours better for visiting places like Machu Picchu?

Small-group tours usually cost less and give you the chance to meet other travelers, which many people enjoy. Private tours offer more flexibility with timing and pacing, which can be helpful if you travel with family, have special interests, or prefer a quieter experience. The best choice depends on your budget, travel style, and how much personal attention you want from your guide.

I felt we were ripped off. There was confusion with our reservations, and we were double-booked. To avoid Viator fees, Exploor insisted we send money via Paypal which we did. When we had to cancel, the company would only refund the cost of lunches that day. But the company never did. And the company should have refunded at least half but kept all our money.

Dear Ron, We sincerely apologize for the negative experience you had.

We understand your disappointment and would like to address your concerns. After thoroughly investigating your order details and speaking with the guide who conducted your tour, we discovered that you had made bookings with both our travel agency and another company. On the day of the tour, our guide and driver were eagerly awaiting your arrival in front of your hotel to begin the excursion. However, you made the decision to proceed with the other company instead.

Regrettably, since our guide and driver had already been scheduled and committed for the day, we are unable to refund the payment allocated for their services. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that you did not partake in the included lunch, and we are more than willing to provide a refund for that portion of the package.

If you would like additional clarification or have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. We wish you the very best in your future travels.

Warm regards, Your Exploor Peru Team
