Hiking the Machu Picchu Mountain Route is difficult and only suitable for travelers who are physically fit. It’s important to schedule your Machu Picchu tour correctly to ensure you have enough time to enjoy the experience to the fullest because the ascent and descent usually take 3-4 hours.

Hiking this route is best done in the dry season from May to October, when the trails are safer and the weather is more consistent. But keep in mind that the weather in the Andes can change suddenly, so be ready for anything.

Permits and Tickets 

From 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, there are only 300 tickets available per hour, allowing 300 travelers to enter each hour. A ticket for the Machu Picchu Mountain route costs S/ 200 (around $79) for adults and S/ 118 (around $31) for children from 3 to 17 years. This ticket provides access to the upper terraces and you will get amazing pictures while discovering this circuit, but it excludes the walk through the ruins.
