Lima: The Perfect Beginning
Your journey opens in Lima, one of the world’s great food cities, with a full day dedicated to doing it justice. A guided tour of the UNESCO-listed historic center walks you through the grand Plaza Mayor, the ornate Cathedral, and the famous catacombs beneath the San Francisco Convent. Lunch at the legendary Museo Larco, set in a beautiful garden courtyard surrounded by the world’s largest private collection of pre-Columbian gold and ceramics, is one of Lima’s finest experiences and the perfect farewell to the city before flying south.
Sacred Valley: The Inca Heartland
Flying into Cusco, we transfer you directly to the Sacred Valley, lower in altitude and the ideal place to acclimatize before the bigger days ahead. A first stop at Manos introduces you to traditional Andean artisans keeping ancient weaving and food traditions alive. Two full days follow: the circular terraces of Moray and the cascading salt pools of Maras in the morning, an afternoon with a local Andean community for weaving demonstrations and a home-cooked lunch. The next day brings Ollantaytambo, the most intact Inca town still standing, before a traditional Pachamanca feast cooked underground and the Vistadome Observatory train to Aguas Calientes.
Machu Picchu: Two Days, Two Circuits
This itinerary gives Machu Picchu the time it deserves. The Vistadome Observatory train, with its panoramic glass roof and open observation deck, delivers you to Aguas Calientes in style. Circuit 2 on Day 6 covers the classic panoramic viewpoints, the agricultural terraces, and the principal buildings of the citadel. Circuit 3 on Day 7 takes a different path through the site, revealing perspectives most visitors never see, before the train returns you to Cusco in the afternoon.
Cusco: History, Culture & a Optional Culinary Experience
Back in Cusco, a full guided city tour takes in Koricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, where perfectly fitted stonework still stands beneath a Spanish colonial church, the vibrant Plaza de Armas, and the monumental ruins of Sacsayhuaman overlooking the city. For those who want to go deeper into Peruvian food culture, an optional half-day cooking class is available in the afternoon.
The Titicaca Train & Lake Titicaca: The Final Chapter
The journey from Cusco to Puno aboard the PeruRail Titicaca train, departing on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, is one of South America’s great rail experiences. A full day crossing the open Altiplano with gourmet lunch, live music, traditional dances, and panoramic Andean scenery delivers you to the shores of Lake Titicaca in the early evening. A full day on the water follows: the Uros floating islands in the morning and Taquile Island in the afternoon, before a final cultural stop at Sillustani, the dramatic pre-Inca funerary towers overlooking Lake Umayo, on the way to the airport.
Premium Upgrade - The Belmond Andean Explorer:
