Overview

The Sacred Valley is a high-altitude valley that is nestled at 2,050 m (6,725 ft) in the Andes mountains. The valley is well known for its steep slopes, beautiful landscapes and impressive Inca ruins.

Weather: The weather in the Sacred Valley of Peru can be divided into two seasons: the dry season that runs from May – September and the rainy season from October – April.

In the dry season, you’ll face sunny and mild temperatures ranging from 5 to 25°C (41- 77°F) during the day, with temperatures dropping to around 0 to 5°C (32 – 41°F) at night.

In contrast the rainy season can bring heavy rain, but with temperatures ranging from 18 – 22°C (64 – 71°F) in the day, while nighttime temperatures can drop to around 7 – 12°C (44 – 53°F).

 

Altitude: The altitude of the Sacred Valley ranges from approximately 2,800 meters (9,186 ft) above sea level near Pisac to about 2,050 m (6,725 ft) near Ollantaytambo.

 

Location: Some examples for the distances between the cities are:

  • Cusco to Lima 1:20 h by plane (20-24 h by bus)
  • Cusco to Aguas Calientes 3 – 4 h by train
  • Cusco to Arequipa 1:10 h by plane (10-12 h by bus)
  • Cusco to Puno 45 – 60 min by plane (6 – 8 h by bus)
  • Cusco to Puerto Maldonado 45 – 60 min by plane (9 – 10 h by bus)
  • Cusco to Iquitos 2:30 h by plane (only option)

These times depend on the airlines, layovers and different routes.
