How to get to Puerto Maldonado:

From Lima

By plane: Flying is the quickest and most practical method to get from Lima to Puerto Maldonado. LATAM, Sky Airlines, and Peruvian Airlines are a few of the carriers that operate nonstop flights between Lima and Puerto Maldonado. The flight lasts about 1:30 hour.

By bus: You may take a bus from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, but the trip takes a long time—about 30 h. The bus route runs through the Andes Mountains, and there are various stops along the way. The companies that provide this service are Civa and Movil Tours.

From Cusco

How to get around in the Peruvian Amazon?

Iquitos:

• Since Iquitos is situated on the Amazon River, boats and ferries are the main means of transportation there. You can hire a private boat for a more individualized excursion or take a riverboat from Iquitos to adjacent towns or villages. Within the city you can use cheap moto taxis or regular taxis.

Puerto Maldonado:

• Due to its location on the Madre de Dios River, riverboats are the main form of transportation in Puerto Maldonado. To reach adjacent nature preserves, native settlements, or wildlife sanctuaries, you can take a boat.  Within the city you can use cheap moto taxis or regular taxis.

Safety Tips for the Peruvian Amazon:

You’ll spend the most of your spare time relaxing on the grounds of your lodge. When you are on a tour, make sure to stick with the group and listen to the guide. Given that it is a rainforest with the possibility of coming into contact with a variety of wild animals, it is recommended not to venture off alone at night. On day trips and treks, make sure you bring a reusable water bottle with you and always use lots of mosquito repellent.
